"Curious, experienced couple looking to crew aboard and discover the world, one stopover at a time."
Hello,
We have just joined Crewbay as a couple.
We are looking for a skilled crew position or a first mate role for myself (Dom), and an experienced crew berth for Marie. We sail to explore, to live meaningful experiences, and occasionally to volunteer.
I am a former climbing and canyoning guide and instructor. I am still fit and active, though perhaps a little more measured in my pace than I used to be.
We have been living in Melbourne for the past four years, where Marie has been serving as General manager of the Alliance Française since September 2022.
We are usually based in France, in the mountains near Grenoble, in the charming village of Lans-en-Vercors.
Over the years, we have enjoyed cross-country skiing, rock climbing, and, on my side, French savate kickboxing and paragliding. We are also former scuba divers and freedivers, and we remain strong swimmers.
Yoga, meditation and pranayama are part of our daily routine. I completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2016 and have maintained a consistent practice ever since. Marie has also pursued several yoga and meditation trainings of her own.
After having crossed the North Atlantic from Saint-Martin to the Azores in 2012, I went on to earn my RYA Coastal Skipper qualification in 2015. Since then, Marie and I have sailed extensively, across the Mediterranean from Sardinia to the Balearic Islands, through the Aegean in summer, around the Seychelles, and more recently from Malaysia to the Andaman Islands via Thailand.
Over the years, I have learned to slow down and truly appreciate every moment. I tend to listen more than I talk, and I take a lot in through observation. By nature, I am discreet and mindful of other people's space, in every sense of the word.
Marie, on the other hand, is far more outgoing and talkative, full of wonderful energy, and genuinely curious about the people and places we encounter.
When sailing, we are deeply grateful to the skippers who open their boats to us. My personal goal is to become fully self-sufficient in handling a sailing vessel, so whenever I come aboard, I make it my mission to earn the skipper's trust by engaging seriously with every aspect of seamanship and boat management.
If there is one thing we genuinely struggle with, it is a competitive mindset in everyday life. We also find it quite difficult to be around people who carry a lot of restless or anxious energy.
With all that said, we also look forward to the quieter rewards of sailing: nice discovery, rest, and a sense of peace.
