Capable, organized, versatile sailor seeks a Delivery or Competent Crew position on an ocean passage or cruise
I am a very useful third watch. Happy to do whatever is needed. I am competent in sailing, navigation, repairs and in the galley. Organized, tidy, drama free and understand how to set up boat to be safe and comfortable offshore.
I nearly bought my own boat multiple times but since my wife prefers charter island hopping rather than long passages and continues to work professionally it makes much more sense for me to use my time and skills to help you cruise about. Besides I would rather sail than work on my own boat. I really like ocean crossings. I have done Cape Town to Trinidad then Cartagena, NZ to Fiji, CA coast and chartered in Tahiti. Would love to do Americas to Marquesas and beyond. Most crossings and interesting cruising are of interest.
I have worked professionally in renewable energy and tech and lived and worked on 4 continents. I am athletic: swim, bike, yoga, meditation. I am always learning and make every effort to adapt to the circumstance with humor and tenacity.
I can pay my own way and travel no problem. Given that I spent zero on my own boat and understand how expensive it is for you, I don't need to travel on a shoestring.
I am a pretty good conversationalist and cook but I am a lightweight drinker so I compensate with humor. I worked on boats during and after college and rebuilt two of my own houses - The take-away is that I will respect your boat as if it were my own and I am pretty handy at fixing things when they break. I am prepared to help with boat preparation and provisioning.
I am a New Zealand resident with a home on the coast near Whangarei which may be useful if you plan to spend the cyclone season there. I am a US citizen and currently live on the East coast of the US but happy to fly anywhere. I can meet up in advance so we can have a reasonable shot at compatibility.
It is your boat. You are the captain. I am the crew. There is no confusion.
Key point: Finding compatible crew mates can be tricky. If it does not work out and you want to swap me out, no worries. I will work with you to get new crew, make the transition easy and pay for my travel home.
