Capable, organized, versatile sailor seeks a Delivery or Competent Crew position on an ocean passage or cruise
I am a very useful third watch. Happy to do whatever is needed. I am competent in sailing, navigation, repairs and in the galley. Organized, tidy, drama free and understand how to set up boat to be safe and comfortable offshore. Last year I sailed from New Zealand to Fiji. Earlier this year I sailed from the Galapagos to the Marquesas. This summer I am actively sailing and taking courses on Lake Ontario. I would like to do the ARC run from Europe to the Caribbean this November. I am very open to consider other passages or cruises.
Generally, folks bring me on board when they are a sailing couple who simply want a third watch so that they can get more rest, enjoy more time on the passage together or have a backup and be safer. Or, as is often the case, there is only one owner aboard and I am one of two other crew.
Finding compatible crew mates can be tricky. I am fully aware that this is your boat and home. You are the owner. I am the crew. There is no confusion. There are three great reasons to pick me:
1) When we do a video or in person interview, I will be fully transparent in all matters including skills, preferences and motivation. Not every boat, skipper and crew is a good match.
2) This will be a mutual interview. My goal is to enjoy the journey and to deliver the boat, owner and crew safely. I look for well-founded boats with capable and interesting skippers and crew.
3) If it does not work out and you want to swap me out, no worries. I will pay for my travel home.
Ever since my first passage in 1995 from Cape Town to Trinidad and then Cartagena, I have enjoyed passage making. Most crossings and interesting cruising are of interest.
I have worked professionally in renewable energy and tech and lived and worked on 4 continents. I am athletic: swim, bike, yoga, meditation. I am always learning and make every effort to adapt to the circumstance with humor and tenacity. I am currently studying for my USCG qualification.
I am a pretty good conversationalist and cook but I am a lightweight drinker so I compensate with humor. I worked on boats during and after college and rebuilt two of my own houses - The take-away is that I will respect your boat as if it were my own and I am pretty handy at fixing things when they break. I am prepared to help with boat preparation and provisioning.
I am a US citizen and a New Zealand resident. I currently live on the East coast of the US and happy to fly anywhere. I can meet up in advance so we can have a reasonable shot at compatibility.
