Ready, Willing, and Able
I’ve loved boats since I was a toddler. I grew up with access to plenty of them along the coasts of Boston’s South Shore and Maine. This summer I bought my first real boat, a Hallberg-Rassy Mistral 33. I had big plans to sail her from Maine to the Bahamas, but the boat is still new to me, I didn’t have crew available, and single-handing a 55-year-old boat on that route was more than my family could take. They’re probably right — but the desire to be on the water hasn’t gone anywhere. I’m counting the weeks until next season. There are too many. So here I am.
This year I crewed in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, my first real race. Not long after, I helped deliver a Hallberg-Rassy 43 from New York to Beaufort, North Carolina — my longest passage so far, and my introduction to offshore night watches.
I’m handy and mechanically inclined. I’m resourceful. I like learning, and I have a good instinct for when to ask questions and when to just watch and listen.
I recently stepped away from a 20-year career in early-childhood special education, so my schedule is flexible. I’m looking for chances to crew, meet more sailors, and see new stretches of coastline, and new shades of water.
Also, for fit/chemistry/comfort, I’m not a MAGA guy.
