Looking to build sea miles in Australia and around
Hi there, I am currently based near to Gold Coast, QLD.
I emigrated to Australia in 2020 from Scotland, from a family of sailors, and have spent the last six years working in healthcare research and policy. I have recently left my job to pursue a career pivot back towards what makes me happiest - exploring and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
I am studying for my Coxswains Grade 1, and my RYA Day Skipper, with the intention to progress through the grades. Ultimately I would love to work for Parks doing maritime work and conservation. I hold an WA Recreational Skippers Ticket.
Most of my boating experience has been sailing laser dinghies in Scotland. I have joined a few sailing and motor yacht trips including four weeks deep sea fishing in Tonga (motor yacht), two weeks yachting around Italy, and two weeks yachting off the coast of Turkey.
I'm a conscientious but laid-back personality, and I am very used to living in all sorts of different conditions. My work in public health has taken me all over the world including remote fieldwork in the French Polynesia, and camping across Uganda and Kenya in my 1-person tent.
I would really like to be able to build my sea miles and skills, and hopefully work towards a maritime adjacent career. However, my main aim is to meet like-minded people and to have some fun :)
