Looking for a Deckhand or Bosun position
Hi - I've just joined Crewbay. I'm interested in finding a position as a Deckhand or Bosun.
Who am I and what I can do:
- 43 years old Finnish citizen (with Finnish/EU passport), energetic and positive attitude, respectful, good at taking initiative and responsibility.
- Physically able, good knowledge of my limits and not prone to seasickness.
- I can be on watch solo, can do sail handling and maneuvers.
- Able Seaman (STCW II/4 - safety certificates valid until 2028). Maritime medical certification valid until 01/2027
- I have sailed since 2007, mainly (traditional) tall ships with 15-50 ppl crew acting as deckhand, engineer and mentor for youth groups. Training experience on a cruise and cargo ships as well. I am adaptive to different crew conditions and group dynamics as well.
- I volunteer as a deck hand and engineer at Schooner Helena in Finland, first mate in training atm.
- I have done longer voyages, including Atlantic crossing 2022 with crew of c. 15-20 ppl, acting as a watch leader taking care of needed maneuvers
- Enviromental engineer and a retreat chef - I can do provisions, menu planning and cooking (plus cleaning). If you want me as a chef however, I will only accept paid positions.
-Experience in boat, sail and engine room maintenance both whilst at sea and on dry dock. Eager to learn more.
Availability and what I am looking for:
- Currently in New Zealand (Manawatu). Looking to exit New Zealand in May towards Pacific islands or Australia/Asia. I can also fly to a destination.
- Looking for primarily a volunteer or paid position or reasonable financial contribution.
- Wanting to be part of a crew that respects each other, the boat and the sea both hard work and fun.
- I do not have a radio license, however have done some radio communications.
- I am a vegetarian, I can cook meat, but I don't eat it.
