Looking for a Competent Crew, Novice Crew, Mile building or Friendship position
I am Gary (Big G) and I am thrilled to join you as a newly certified Competent Crew member, eager to bring my skills and energy aboard. I am a career math and science teacher, and my recent sailing training has deepened my understanding of seamanship, sail handling, and safety at sea, and I am ready to be a reliable and hardworking deckhand. You can count on me to haul lines, trim sails, keep watch, and follow captain’s orders.
Beyond my formal sailing certification, I bring years of hands-on experience as a fisherman and scuba diver— no stranger to the rhythm of the sea, the patience it demands, or the resilience it builds. I am comfortable working in all weather, handling gear, and managing small repairs, whether it’s mending lines, fixing fittings, or keeping equipment shipshape. My background as a repairman means I’m resourceful and handy when something needs attention.
As a watchman, I take pride in being alert, dependable, and aware of both the boat and my crewmates’ well-being. I value teamwork, clear communication, and mutual respect — qualities that make for smooth sailing and a strong, cohesive crew. I am a bit of a musician too, so if you want me to bring my ukulele for a captain’s hour of sea shanties, just ask.
I look forward to learning from all of you, contributing fully, and making this a safe, enjoyable, and successful voyage together.
