Two cyclists looking to trade the road for the sea ??
We’re Gian, 23, and Defne, 21, two students from Germany travelling towards Izmir by bicycle and hoping to continue our journey somewhere through the Mediterranean by sailboat.
Defne is the one with the black curly hair, the cool smile and the kind of vibe that makes people feel comfortable very quickly. Gian is the brown-haired one and already has some experience on the water. His family has owned a motorboat for around five years, and they have spent a lot of time travelling along the Croatian coast. He has also joined a sailing trip with a skipper and a mixed crew, followed by another ten-day sailing trip with his family. So he knows the basics, feels comfortable on boats and learns new tasks quickly.
Defne has no sailing experience yet, but she is curious, active and very willing to learn. We’re both happy to help with cooking, cleaning, shopping, watches, manoeuvres and all the normal jobs that come with life on board. We’re definitely not looking for a floating taxi.
Our original idea was to travel through some of the Greek islands and maybe slowly continue towards Egypt, but our plans are very flexible. We love spontaneous opportunities, and when something interesting comes up, we’re usually the kind of people who say yes first and work out the details afterwards ?
We’re open-minded, cheerful and very easy to get along with. We enjoy meeting new people, sharing stories and sitting around the table for hours. We’re also usually the people you can always laugh with — and quite often the ones laughing the loudest.
For us, the people, the atmosphere and the adventure matter much more than the exact destination.
