Experienced owner/skipper seeking 2027 Pacific Puddle Jump berth
I am an experienced Canadian/British sailor seeking an unpaid working-crew berth for the 2027 Pacific Puddle Jump. I will be available in Panama from early January 2027 and can also join a boat in Mexico. My goal is to sail through French Polynesia and continue toward New Zealand or Australia, on one boat or in legs.
I have approximately 15,000 nautical miles of cruising and passage experience, including 18 years as a boat owner/skipper, eight seasons in the Sea of Cortez and along the Mexican Pacific coast, and many overnight passages. I made many of those passages singlehanded and many as the sole adult aboard with my two young sons.
My experience includes gale conditions off Baja and complete rudder loss at sea off Puerto Vallarta. We made port safely under Hydrovane steering. I also spent four years as a Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Certified Crewmember, with extensive severe-weather and marine-rescue training.
This would be my first ocean crossing. I am self-funded and will cover my own travel, personal costs and fair share of provisions. I am fit, calm, a non-smoker and accustomed to treating a small boat as someone’s home. Full sailing CV and references are available.
