Happy sailor looking to join as crew/cook
Ahoy there, sailors! ⛵
I'm looking to join a crew for some adventures on the water, ideally in the Med, and perhaps an Atlantic crossing. I'm open to all sorts of boats, journeys and adventures!
I qualified as a Day Skipper some years ago and spent two years living aboard a sailing yacht in the Red Sea, working as cook and crew. I cooked for divers on trips that sometimes lasted several weeks away from land, which was great fun. I've sailed extensively around the Greek islands, transited the Suez Canal and crewed on boats in the Solent — which can be considerably more challenging than the Med in many ways!
I've also experienced three days in a storm, which was both exciting and challenging, particularly when it came to cooking. I learnt that a good sense of humour and a plentiful supply of snacks are essential!
More recently, I spent four years living in Tanzania, where I owned a Laser and a small boat and sailed whenever I could, often several times a week. I've also taught dinghy sailing and kayaking to children. I'm a qualified scuba diver and have completed a freediving course, so I'm equally happy on the water, in it or under it — or simply spending hours looking at it.
I'm easy going, calm, sociable and adaptable, with a practical, can-do attitude. Having lived aboard for two years, I understand the importance of keeping a boat tidy and organised, working well with others in a confined space and adapting when the weather or plans change. I'm happy doing night watches, mucking in wherever needed and learning from more experienced sailors. I eat pretty much anything and can cook a wide variety of meals, even when conditions make it interesting!
I've lived and travelled extensively, including in Tanzania, Japan, Dubai, Peru and France. I speak fluent French, hold British and European passports, and am currently taking a year away from teaching to pursue some new adventures. I'm also perfectly happy sharing the boat with cats or dogs.
I'm currently based in London, have my salopettes ready and can travel at short notice.
