Looking for a Competent Crew, Novice Crew, Racing crew or Voluntary work position
I’m looking for two crew positions for myself and a good friend. We’re 24 and 23-year-old Danes from Copenhagen, looking to join a boat for a proper offshore sailing adventure.
Our main goal is either an Atlantic crossing towards the Caribbean or a Pacific passage towards French Polynesia. We’re flexible about the exact route and stops and would be very interested in staying aboard for a longer period or joining for several legs.
I have been sailing since I was eight. I started at my local sailing club and grew up racing and sailing Optimists, RS Fevas, 29ers, Ynglings, 606s and J/80s. I have competed in the Danish Championships in the Yngling class and spent a summer working as a Yngling sailing instructor.
I also grew up cruising Scandinavia aboard our family's Mamba 311. I have sailed around Zealand four times and made numerous trips to Sweden, Samsø and around Danish waters, including longer passages and night watches.
For the past five years, I have also skippered 45-50 ft cruising catamarans in Croatia for around a week at a time, primarily sailing around Split, Hvar and Vis.
I hold a Danish Duelighedsbevis (Certificate of Competency for recreational sailing), a VHF/SRC certificate and an extended first-aid qualification for people with special responsibility. I am currently studying for my Yachtskipper 3 qualification and am also an Open Water certified diver.
My friend, Frederik, also holds a Duelighedsbevis, an extended military first-aid qualification with distinction, as well as a maritime engine proficiency certificate. We have been sailing together in Danish and Swedish waters recreationally over the past five years, and he also has two years of sailing-school experience.
We have both lived in England and attended international schools, so we speak fluent English in addition to Danish. Frederik is also fluent in Norwegian and speaks basic Spanish. We’re comfortable in international environments and enjoy meeting and living with people from different backgrounds.
Neither of us claims to be an experienced ocean sailor yet - that’s exactly the experience we’re looking to gain. What we can offer is a solid sailing foundation, two people who are comfortable aboard boats, keen to learn and prepared to pull our weight.
We’re looking to join as crew rather than passengers. We’re happy taking day and night watches, cooking, cleaning, provisioning and helping with maintenance and repairs. We understand that a long passage involves plenty of routine work as well as the adventure, and we're happy to contribute wherever needed.
We’re also happy to contribute our fair share towards food, fuel and normal shared onboard expenses.
Most importantly, we’re looking for a safe, competent and sociable boat where we can become part of the crew, learn from people with genuine offshore experience and have a great adventure together.
