Looking for a couple position(Captain and Stew/Deck/Cook) on a sailing yacht.
My journey in sailing began at the age of 9 in São Miguel Island, Azores, where I immersed myself in dinghy sailing. Over the years, I honed my skills through competitive sailing and later transitioned into a role as a sailing instructor. One of the highlights of my sailing career was participating in the Oyster World Rally, where I sailed the Pacific Ocean and put my seamanship and engineering skills to the test.
In my most recent role as Captain/Engineer on the SY Koluka, an Oyster 72', I played a pivotal role in ensuring the vessel's compliance with regulations and standards. I spearheaded the preparation of the boat for a survey to obtain the Commercial license, meticulously attending to every detail to meet the necessary requirements. Additionally, I led the vessel's preparation for upcoming seasons in Scotland and the Caribbean, as well as the Atlantic Crossing. Despite the vessel being laid ashore for over 7 years, my engineering skills enabled me to overcome challenges and ensure its seaworthiness.
In addition to my Approved Engine Course (AEC), I pursued a diploma in Renewable Energies and gained valuable experience working in the field. This background has equipped me with a strong understanding of technical systems, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, which I believe are invaluable in the dual role of Captain/Engineer.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I am deeply passionate about kitesurfing, reflecting my adventurous spirit and willingness to embrace new challenges. I am eager to bring this same energy and commitment to my role as Captain, contributing to the success and safety of your vessel.
I am available at your earliest convenience for a discussion about how my skills and experiences align with the needs of your vessel. Please feel free to contact me at +351918096091 or via email at afonsocbp@gmail.com Thank you for considering my application.
Sincerely,
Afonso Pires
