Adventurous Young Heart, Old Soul

I have spent almost every weekend on a sailboat for the last several summers but I still have LOTS to learn. I plan on taking at a minimum ASA 101,103 & 104 and STCW 10 Basic Training. (Thank you for the recommendation Charlie.) I also plan on getting my PADI certification. I will be looking into other trainings too. I'm easy going and laid back. No drama here.

I may not have all the sailing experience and training yet but I am a quick learner, a hard worker and I am also a bit on the handy side. Although it was 25+ years ago and I don't work in that field anymore, I have an AA in Electronic Engineering Technology. I've also worked in landscaping, had my own business, drove for Fed Ex and worked in administration, I'm a tomboy too but I've been told, "You clean up good."

I grew up helping my dad in the garage and helping on my grandparent's farm. Driving tractors, mowing, raking, baling, feeding, cutting and splitting wood, welding, using a cutting torch, helping rebuild engines, transmissions, replace brakes, woodworking, etc.

I helped build my old house from the foundation up...I helped with framing, wiring, plumbing, insulating, sheetrocking, taping, mudding, sanding and painting. I installed the cabinets, helped install windows and doors and did all the finish carpentry, I also helped with siding and roofing.

I've troubleshot and repaired the household appliances, furnace, and hot tub as much as I could for years. When working in the electronics field I troubleshot and repaired computer graphics boards. That was a lifetime ago but I did it. I built and wired a shed in the backyard and called my Dad to double check my wiring over the phone. It worked and I didn't zap myself.

Although a tomboy I love to cook and I can even sew. Growing up I made clothes for my family, made my own jeans and made my own pattern and sewed a kite that would drag me across the beach. I also made my own pattern and sewed a dodger for my 22' MacGregor Venture. There were many colorful words, ripped out and resewn seams and mistakes but it fits and doesn't leak.

I've been a Mom for 33 years, managed a household and worked full time. You all know the list of jobs a mother, or any working or stay at home parent, has.......CEO, facility manager, nurse, chauffeur, chef, waitress, maid, teacher, playmate, housekeeper, laundry attendant, accountant, psychologist, groundskeeper, handyman, maintenance worker, computer operator, counselor, referee, coach, alarm clock, security officer (to scare away the boogie man), photographer, event planner, hairdresser, personal assistant, ATM, mind reader, etc, etc, etc.

Although I've done all of these things, many have been several years ago. I'm no expert in any one area. Sometimes I know enough to get by and sometimes enough to get myself in trouble and need to call for help. I'm not afraid to try though. With these skills and this outlook, I believe I will be able to be helpful and competent while sailing.

Recently several high-stress life events have hit hard and emphasized how short life really is. I am re-evaluating and looking into ways to get out of the rat race and really live life.

"I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well." Quote by Diane Ackerman And I like to add....."and the depth."
