Looking for ocean sailing crewing positions
I am currently in the final semester of my Mechanical Engineering degree at Edinburgh University, Scotland, and am looking for mile building and deckhand opportunities from June 2023 onwards. I have the ultimate ambition of working towards my Yachtmaster Offshore qualification, and am therefore looking for experience and mileage towards this.
Previous experience includes a year working sailing aboard a fleet of 3 tall ships based in Sydney Harbour (as lead deckhand and engineer) for a year, learning a range of engineering, maintenance and sailing skills. Additionally, I have several seasons experience working within the water safety industry, providing powerboat-based rescue services for a range of sporting events and commercial jobs alike, ranging from international triathlon events and the Commonwealth Games, to Formula 1 film sets – so have significant experience operating outboard engines.
Having undertaken a major refit in Sydney I am well practiced in maintenance jobs, and enjoy the practical side of this, and would be happy to assist in preparation of the vessel for a trip.
Outside of sailing, I am a keen mountaineer, climber and skier, having spent several seasons in the French and Swiss Alps, with hope to develop towards Greenland, Norwegian and Arctic trips if you are hoping to also sail in these areas.
