Ahoy Captains….
My name is Alvin and with me I bring 10 years of experience under my belt working as an all-rounder mainly as an Engineer/Deckhand on motor vessels up to 35mts. I never sailed before until my very first sailing experience ever was crossing the Atlantic on a catamaran from Cape Verde to Guadeloupe. After that experience I would like to take it up to another level by finding possible opportunities on sailing yachts from mainland Europe to anywhere…. Maybe that's your boat?
I would not call myself a Bosun but after many sea adventures for quite a long time I can say that now I know my way well around a boat. I would like to expertise my already have qualities and eager to learn more about watch keeping, trimming, tidals and stream influences. Get more knowledge about different means of navigation, weather reading, stars reading and sailing.
I am very aware that handling a boat at open sea is not always a leisure trip and I take serious undertaking especially where it comes to safety onboard and preventive maintenance. Working as a team it’s one of my commandments on board and obviously always following the skipper’s orders. Being aware of onboard duties while underway with priority entails to watch keeping shift routines, I am always ready to prepare some delicious meals and see some happy faces. It always helps me feel more confident and safer with getting to know the rest of the crew before sailing out and be able to have a glimpse of whom will be sharing life onboard for the next days or weeks. If it’s a short notice call than I can still adapt to the present situation. Before sailing out I will be always happy to help in the preparation and planning process so I can have a better understanding of the voyage. I always believe that prior to departure it’s important to have a briefing detail about safety, emergency plans, watch keeping routines, communication onboard and food.
I am often described by my close friends and even by new people I meet as positive, caring, thoughtful, reflective, honest, good listener, open minded, friendly, self contained, cleaning maniac and a good cook. Many says that everyone needs an Alvin around ? Things I value are honesty, openness, clear communication, team work and emotional check-ins if the other allows it. I do not have space for sexism or racism in my aura and everyone is always welcome. I can communicate in different languages such as English, Italian, Spanish and of course with my mother tongue Maltese. With the little bit of French I can remember sometimes was very helpful too.
I am physically and mentally healthy. Always trying to give the best to myself and live a healthy lifestyle being a non-smoker, alcohol free and no medications or drugs goes through my blood stream. I love natural foods and don’t like to eat living creatures so I always choose veggies.
