Heading to Panama. I Cook, clean, sing, swim, smile and help out with all!

Ahoy there!

My name is Shawna and I have a little experience, and good live aboard habits.
I understand how much I don't know as well.
I learn more what I don't know every time I sail.

The smartest thing I've ever heard about sailing is, everyone is a toddler when steping aboard a new vessel. Regardless of experience.
This keeps me enjoying being shown things I already know and not afraid to ask about stuff I don't.

CURRENTLY:

I'm in Guatemala and would love to travel to the Galapigos I case anyone feels like the weather might still be good for a couple weeks. I am on my way to Panama eventually. I'll be slowly making my way by land and checking for matches here periodically.

I've been told I tend to sell myself short, so I won't attempt to sell myself at all. I will work hard, keep watch, cook, clean, ECT. In exchange for travel, lodging (most likely aboard) and food in a trade for travel situation.

If it's a professional position:
I also hold 5 star hotel references from Canada for both serving and cleaning as well as personal references.
I have one 2.5 day delivery under my belt as the only crewmate besides the Captain.

I am planning to have my RYA competent crew certification asap.
I would likely have it now, however, world events continue to hold the process up. It will happen. I have patience.
I would go for the short course, I can name most parts of a vessel and tie 7 knots.

I'm generally a quick learner and easy to get along with. Always learning more.
I've been on a few boats, since 2017, but sailing isn't really measured in nautical miles or years or hours. It's measured in tacks and every boat is different.
I get along best with people who are proactive about taking the time to be prepared.

I have met interesting people in my travels including a highly regarded Capitan who taught me a tiny bit of "basic basic basic" navigation I cannot wait to put into practice. I'm not looking to be a paid navigator yet, however. I want someone else doing it too, at first. Maybe forever. I like to be walked through nav equipment before nightwatch. Stuff like that.
Basically I could be a good fit for someone who needs a well rounded crewmate. I can learn what's needed and go from there.
I, also, look forward to doing the "tight ship" perfection and precision on a larger or smaller vessel with training and orientation and the whole production. I have been told I'd enjoy it.
I love sail boats. I want to own one one day and realize there are as many ways to live on a boat as in a house.
I don't smoke.
I like pets and kids but I don't have either.
I would have a dog, but Its easier to get on a crew without one.
Vegan, vegetarian and meat eater boat friendly.
I'd rather be healthy than not. That being said. I can pick the wieners out of the beans.
I enjoy sharing cooking skills and ideas and learning about new kitchen gadgets. I also won't mind simple nutrition.
I enjoy music, singing, and learning new songs. I've written a few on guitar. Also I can pull off a bit of drumming, harmonica, woodwind and keyboard by ear.
I'm carrying little in the way of luggage, and am currently traveling with no guitar but I love to play.
I love the water. Swimming, snorkeling. I don't have diving certification yet, but it is in the plans.

(I think it's also beneficial at the current time, to add that I am a good human being with critical thinking experience. Both to do with creativity in a necessity situation at sea, and to do with human emotion. This may prove to be my greatest attribute on crew at these uncertain times. How you feel is all that matters. I will help us feel good.)

If I were to run into an opportunity to have a sailing or diving certification training paid for, in exchange for work aboard, that would be ideal, but it is not a necessity.
Let me know if you would like my further contact info and we can go from there.

Happy sails Everyone!

Shawna is very creative and inquisitive. Adapted well to life on board a boat. She communicated well. Did well on the crossing from San Carlos to Santa Rosalia and down the coast to la Paz. I wish her well in the future. Syd.
