Danish couple looking to crew in French Polynesia, May-August 2020
We're a Danish couple, looking to find a recreational boat to crew on for a few months from end of May-ish to August 2020. We’re both in our early thirties and live and work out of Copenhagen, Denmark. However, after our wedding in August 2019, we decided to extend our honeymoon a bit – and by a bit, we mean a full year to travel around the world. This trip has been a dream of ours for years, and it feels amazing to finally be able to make it come true!
What we can contribute with onboard:
- Cooking
- Cleaning, organizing and general ship maintenance
- Deck crew
- Fishing and spearfishing
- Late night exchanges of stories, music and good vibes
- Good coffee (we brought all the gear to make a great brew)
- Photography and photoediting
Our trip around the world in a year:
Our plan is to combine backpacking, camping and sailing in order to reach all the beautiful places we wish to visit. We start out in Kei and Banda Islands (Indonesia), followed by a few weeks in Myanmar. Then we head to Patagonia for a couple of months, where we’ll be trekking and hiking around the beautiful national parks of Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. After Christmas in Florida, we’ll continue south through Central America, starting in Mexico and making our way through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and then onto South America, where we’ll spend a few months travelling through Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. From there, we’d like to spend the last 2-3 months of our trip sailing/island hopping through south pacific islands – and that’s where you come into the picture!
About Us:
Laura works as a regional Head of Strategy for a global software company, and Kristian as an in-house lawyer for a large telco company. We’re a lot more colorful than our titles might imply ? We’ve both been granted a leave of absence to pursue our dream of travelling around the world, and we’re so excited to see where it takes us!
Kristian grew up on a large farm in rural Denmark, where he fully expected to take over the family farm up until he did a complete 180 and decided to become a lawyer instead. He’s an easygoing, fun, and diplomatic guy, who’s always up for an adventure. Kristian has played music all his life (mainly drums) and even played as a side gig at weddings and parties up until recently. He’s always been active, playing various sports, and whenever the Danish weather permits it, he’s ready to jump in to the frigid Nordic waters for spearfishing.
Laura grew up on the island of St. Thomas in the Caribbean with Danish parents, and lived on a 47 ft sailboat for a couple of years, while slowly sailing south towards Venezuela, so life at sea comes very naturally to her. She’s a down-to-earth kind of gal, who’s easy to be around and get along with. She enjoys all water-related activities and holds a CMAS** divers certificate, and gets an odd sense of satisfaction by organizing things.
Besides Laura’s childhood sailing, she’s mainly sailed around the Nordic straights and belts with family and friends on day-and-weekend trips in the summer time. Recently, Kristian started joining these trips, and proved himself particularly sea-worthy last summer, when we hit some rough seas on an overnight sail. We’re both capable of holding a course – also in rough weather and in the dark – and dutifully take order as deck hands from the captain.
We hope our profiles have sparked an interest with you, and if you feel that we’d be a good match with your crew, we hope to hear from you! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and we’d be happy to set up a skype session, where we can virtually meet each other
