Looking to sail from St Thomas USVI
Hello there! I'm an easy going, hardworking guy who loves the ocean and desires to learn more about sailing and living at sea. I have a tremendous love and respect for the ocean and for those who live on her beautiful body. I have limited experience sailing, although I am always driven to focus and do my best at all times. I take pride in my ability and humbly learn from my failures and shortcomings. I take orders well and I am seeking an experienced captain to trade knowledge and experience for hard work and dedication.
I currently live and work aboard a 60ft trimaran in the Caribbean. We are mostly upgrading and repairing shipboard systems in between running charters through the USVI and BVI.
I am very adaptable and require few comforts. I listen and take orders well, and I take responsibility seriously. When on land or at sea I enjoy relaxing, taking in the beauty of nature, and a good conversation. I love to learn and challenge myself to constantly improve myself and the world around me.
I grew up on a small farm in western Pennsylvania, USA. Far from the ocean, I took naturally to hiking, climbing, camping, biking, and all of the other natural pleasures on the rigid world of land. I spent as much time in/on rivers and lakes, and I escaped to the ocean as many times as possible over the course of my life. Now after spending the past 10 years learning and applying skills for the software and technology industry, I am thoroughly disappointed with the unfulfilled life of an office worker in the crowded cities of asphalt, glass, and steel.
I am currently interested in learning everything about the ocean, sailing, navigation, weather and climate, and what its like to live on and near the sea. I am excited about meeting interesting people and experiencing new cultures along the way. I have a tremendous amount of respect, and wonder, for the sea and the people who navigate across its unforgiving surface.
I am currently seeking an exciting opportunity to sail. I have little restrictions over the destination or duration of the trip, and would be excited about any opportunity to sail. I am conscious of the fact that with my lack of experience I will be imposing a burden on a captain and his/her ship, and I promise to minimize this burden as much as possible and to contribute as much as possible. I pack very light, and I can purchase any necessary equipment. I am willing to do any sort of physically or mentally grueling or otherwise dirty or undesirable work. I can also contribute money towards any communal fees and for accommodating me on the boat.
I hope to get to know some of the captains here better and I hope to find a good fit on one of your boats! My schedule is free and I am available to meet in person. I'd love to buy you a coffee, a meal, or a drink if you think I may be a good fit as crew on an upcoming passage. I'm also open to helping with provisioning and any other work you may have around the marina between passages.
