Looking for a Delivery/crewing opportunity
Hi everyone! I'm a 39 years old systems engineer who decided office wasn't for her.
I live aboard a 30ft sailboat that I've called home since June 2015, but now I'm looking for a better equipped (and probably larger) boat to do some mile building, aiming at doing an ocean crossing.
On 2017, my husband and I took our sailboat from Cancun to Belize and Honduras, and back to Cancun. We made over a thousand miles by ourselves, with overnight sailing, watches, and passage planning. We try our best to have a balanced approach when sailing our boat, meaning that both of us have to be able to steer, determine and adjust heading, trim sails, check the engine, cook, etc. We're aware one may be more at ease than the other for some of these tasks, but we ultimately aim at being able to sail the boat and solve issues if the other one isn't there.
In the last eight years I've been working on sailboats and catamarans servicing people and helping with anchoring, steering, adjusting sails and assisting maneuvers on the boat. I've also worked on private yachts keeping them clean and tidy, cooking and servicing the owners and their guests. From 2021 I started doing maintenance work on different boats, including basic cabin/deck cleaning, woodwork, teak restoration, rust removal and metal restoration (sanding, priming, painting), hull polishing, fiberglass work and gel coat cosmetics. Finally, from December 2022 to April 2023, I worked as full time crew on an aluminum boat performing different repair and restoration work on various projects of different nature.
On our boat, together with previously mentioned activities, we redid all the standing rigging and at this moment (June 2022), we're in the final stages of assembling our engine (Yanmar 2GM20), after a complete disassembling because of a corroded piston.
On February 2021, I had my first opportunity as delivery crew from Guatemala to Panama on a non-stop six-day passage, and that was probably one of the best working experiences I've ever had. Then, on march 2021, I had a second delivery opportunity on a shorter but equally challenging three-day passage, from Puerto Progreso to Puerto Aventuras in Mexico. To end a great 2021 mile-wise, I went on a five-day passage from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas on december, and then went anchorage hopping for three days to La Paz.
When we got our boat, it had only been 5 months since I ever stepped on a sailboat for the first time, none for my husband, and yet two months later we took her out without even having the engine on the boat (it was having an overhaul done) and spent 12 hours going nowhere, just sailing. That's how much we love it.
I'm hardworking, talkative, detail oriented and always eager to learn new stuff. When I commit, I give a 100% of my energy to it. I'm very used to being on boats and taking good care of them. Seven years of charter work, as simple as it might seem, gave me the opportunity to spend a good amount of hours a week on a boat, with all the implications that has: problems that arise must be solved whether you're 1 nm or more from the coast! Since I live in Cancun, where it's summer-like year long, charter work also happens all year long. I'll let you do the math.
Hope I can find a boat to build miles on!!
Top notch crew person.
Excellent all around hand and ready to handle any task required aboard.
