Seeking Deckhand, Delivery Crew, Stew/Deck or Boat sitter position

Experienced deckhand with prior sailing aboard several tallships. Sailing CV below. Seeking work primarily as deckhand to accrue seat time/miles in order to advance USCG certifications towards mate/captain positions.

Willing to relocate/travel for positions.

Sailing Experience

May 2017-July 2017 Picton Castle Trainee
Summer voyage from Charleston, SC to Bermuda, Boston, MA and Prince Edward Island, NS
Learned basic layout of all lines for fore-and-aft and square sails
Learned basics of watchstanding duties (helm, lookout, ships safety checks, anchor and dock watch, completing hourly logs)
Learned essential safety protocols for MOB, Fire, and Abandon Ship scenarios
Gained proficiency at seamanship skills of splicing, seizing, whippings, and sail stitching and repair
Aided in sending up royal yards and sails, as well as sending up main sail
Learned the basics of sailing (points of sail, wind direction, boxing the compass, etc.)
Learned basic and advanced knots (round turn and two half hitches, clove hitch, bowline, reef knot, constrictor hitch, highwayman’s cutaway, tugboat hitch, figure eight, sheet bend, anchor bend, buntline hitch, etc.)
Conducted small boat handling exercises (launch, rowing, motor operation, and recovery)
Learned protocols for rigging ship for heavy weather (man-ropes, nettings, battening down hatches and watertight doors)

Summer voyage from Lunenburg, NS through St. Lawrence Seaway and tour of U.S. Great Lakes
Sail handling (loosing, setting, trimming, and stowing)
General rig maintenance (slushing masts, block maintenance, tarring standing rigging, etc.)
Sending up, bending on and sending down sail (t’Gallants and Royals)
Watch standing duties (lookout, helm, ship checks, general ship’s maintenance)
Helmed ship through crowded navigational channels in St. Lawrence Seaway and on approaches to locks under power
Controlled heaving and mooring lines during passages through St. Lawrence Seaway and Welland Canal locks
Aided in cockbilling yards for passage through locks
Aided in sail training exercises for new trainees
Aided in training aloft (loosing and stowing sail) with new trainees
Controlled lines during cargo lift operations (yard, mast and stay tackles)
Acted in joint role as lead seaman of watch for the last leg of voyage
Controlled set and trim of sails under direction of Captain and Chief Mate
Shadowed 2nd Mate during watches to learn more about the basics of navigation

October 2019 - December 2019 Pride of Baltimore II Deckhand

Worked as deckhand during public tours, daysails and private charters around Baltimore harbor
Sailed as part of the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner race, winning line honors
Participated in Chestertown downrig festival
Helped with downrig of ship including sending down sails and yards, sanding/varnishing and repairing spars, and stowing rigging and sails

April 2020 - October 2020 Schooner Appledore IV Education Coordinator/Deckhand

Hired to work as a deckhand and education coordinator during summer sailing season of 2020
Will be responsible for carrying out marine science education program as well as participating in sail training program for high school students
Will participate in uprig of Schooner for summer season
