Jack of all trades guy looking to change careers
I am 30 / M. I am a technically minded individual (Physics major, Software Developer background). I took a couple of years off of work to earn my RYA offshore licence and travel / sail SE Asia. I'm back in the US and was planning to go back to work but I can't see myself working at a desk again. So I guess its time for me to switch careers.
I'm a good cook, not chef. I'm constantly experimenting and making new dishes.
I wouldn't call myself a mechanic yet but I can do more than just your basic maintenance for a marine diesel. I can troubleshoot problems, bleed air from the line, replace the impellers jump start and kill the engine. I've repaired an outboard a couple of times. That type of stuff.
I'm not an electrician but I've snaked lines through a boat and rewired systems before. I've rewired and programmed a smart breaker. I've tore down and reinstalled wind generators and solar panels.
I'm not a plumber but I've redone plumbing for a macerator, water maker, and sink. I've also replaced/resealed a couple of seacocks.
I of course have no issues doing the day to day stuff; deck work, handling lines, taking watches.
I'm looking for either a boat big enough to allow me the chance to work in multiple departments or a boat small enough that I can have a hand in everything. I'd prefer working on a sailing vessel but I'm not that picky. If there's an air compressor on board you can be sure I'll be bringing my scuba gear as well :).
