Looking for a Novice Crew, Competent Crew, Diver or Voluntary work position
We are Emma and Dan. We're 30 years old, married, living in the SF Bay area. Both engineers -- Emma is a rocket propulsion engineer and Dan, after leaving his job in the wind energy business, spends most days studying physics. We are experienced sailors -- Dan raced IODs in Massachusetts through college, and Emma holds ASA 101/103 certifications. Together we own a Catalina 30 named Joyous that we sail in the bay and use to teach ourselves all manner of boat maintenance. We've taken her on a few long sails, and every year we go on a week-long sailing trip into the Delta, sometimes with 8 people living on the boat. So we are used to sharing space on a sailing trip.
That said, our only blue water cruising experience has been a bare boat charter we did in the Bahamas a couple of years ago with some friends. But we do come with plenty of enthusiasm and as realistic a view of passage making as can be gleaned from books and videos. Our hope would be to use one or two crewing experiences to build the skills we'll need to launch our own adventure. If all goes well we'll trade up to a blue water boat and begin in winter 2020.
