Accustomed to hard work & equally good times, can take orders well. Wish to learn more about sailing and navigation.

Hi - I've just joined Crewbay.

Looking to crew with some interesting folks this winter to learn more about sailing and navigation. I want to feel out the sailing life a bit to help me make a decision on whether to purchase my own vessel within the next few years. Particularly interested in catamarans for the space and comfort but will consider opportunities on any sailing vessel. I prefer natural and or remote destinations fishing, snorkeling, diving, hiking, and outdoor activities over hitting ports and the nightlife. But can totally roll with exploring towns, local fare, and a little nightlife. Would love to learn how to spearfish and free diving techniques.

My ocean experience has been primarily on a 32 fiberglass salmon seiner and 42 ft. steel hull sailing/powered fishing vessel in Alaska in the 90's. No stranger to the awe inspiring power of the winds and sea or the work required to maintain a boat. I'm no engineer but am a pretty good problem solver and handy with many repairs. I do most of my own home, boat, motorcycle, and auto repairs.

49 years old, in decent shape, no physical or mental health conditions, no medications or addictions, omnivorous, easy going, fun loving and respectful. Non-smoker and can likely drink as much or as little as you. That's not meant as a challenge though!

Spent the last 20 years building an off-grid homestead from felling the trees, sawmilling lumber, building a cabin, & micro hydro/solar power system, building a wildly successful bee supply, bee education, and beekeeping business & raising a beautiful daughter whilst rehabbing, renting, and selling houses. The lifestyle and business became consuming and awesomely rewarding/satisfying; pollinating crops, selling honey, building a beekeeping equipment business, teaching classes, and making a lick on real estate and long term rentals.

The last 5 years I've been downsizing my obligations, hard labor and communications aka: exit strategy: now single, bee business sold but still keep 50 hives, sold off a few rental houses, moved off the homestead to a simpler place (yes its true the simple life ain't so simple), and my daughter, now 18, has just fledged. So, I'm in a good position, well... flat out itching to get back to the sea & ol' dream of sailing. If you choose me for crew I'm sure we'll have a fine time swapin' yarns!

Thank you,
Jon
