Mile building, on top of sharing costs, willing to pay to get the experience I'm looking for
Hi everybody!
Previous periods of my life I have been sailing on and off, mostly together with friends and their boats. For a while I had a smaller sailboat (17 foot, some 30 years ago) and tried to get the kids interested in sailing but without success. Now as I have retired 3 years ago at the age of 59 I have put the old dream to work again, got a second batch of kids and bought another small boat (21 foot this time, look at the pictures) and looking to freshen up the experience before I get some more serious boat this time. I also have my 8 year old son Stefan with me this time who showed both talent and great interest in sailing and we are having a great time together with our little boat.
I would say I'm pretty good with the plain sailing knowledge, what I'm looking for and extremely interested in is learning about the systems for navigating and handling a modern yacht equipped for long distance sailing. I've also earned some pretty good skills with mechanical and low volt electricity from hobbies like cars and motorhomes. My profession when working was designing computer systems and testing them trying to break them. I have fairly easy to understand how things work. And not afraid to get my fingers dirty (doesn't mean I will step forward to repair the toilet every time :) but I will do my share for sure!
Being financially stable and owning my time now and looking forward to do the most of it. Ready to travel to other destinations for the right opportunity to build miles and experience. Looking forward to get to know new people in similar situations but with more sailing experience than myself! Interested in both longer and shorter trips and can travel over the world as long as the corona situation not stopping it!
Update 2021 june: We bought a bigger boat now, Facil 35, and have spent most of the summer out on water on the local lake here close to Orebro. Brushed off the sailing skills quite good this summer but still looking for more experience especially involving more navigation and longer trips.
Update 2022 September: Went with the Facil 35 and the whole family for a 3 month trip starting in Swedish lake Vättern, going on Göta Kanal to the swedish west coast and up to Norway. Going back from there, round the southern point of Sweden and up the Swedish east coast to Stockholm and then back home again. We were living on the boat full time, everything went very well without any major incidents. Want to take another step forward with the sailing, still not tried night sailing and still need to learn more about planning longer trips.
