Former sailing instructor available for deliveries and other short-term paid work
I am a former dinghy sailing instructor usually based between the pacific coasts of Mexico and Canada but open to sailing work anywhere. In addition to teaching I have managed operations for yachts (itineraries, marina bookings, provisioning and meal planning), and worked as a deckhand, stew, and cook for family-style meals for up to 16 crew and guests. I have offshore experience of up to 10 days / 1300 nm consecutively. My total professional keelboat sailing experience is around 5000nm.
Primarily I am interested in deliveries (maybe an Atlantic crossing) and other short-term paid work, but I could be talked into other positions if there's opportunity to surf. I communicate well, and am not easily fazed by the frequent inconveniences that tend to arise in this environment. I speak Spanish and French, though my French is rusty. I recently completed my MA in economics, and am a runner.
I am fully (4x) vaccinated, I do not smoke, rarely drink (never underway), and have no tattoos. I hold Canadian citizenship and Mexican residency. I have worked in the EU on a Schengen visa and while I am not a US citizen I have done plenty of paid sailing work in the US without issue under the B1/B2 visa exemption for Canadian sailors (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/other-visa-categories/crewmember-visa.html scroll down to "Citizens of Canada and Bermuda").
I am lucky to have enough opportunities that at this time I generally do not respond to requests to take on unpaid sailing work. I am not available for long-term cruising. Please do not contact me about connecting “romantically”.
