Looking For Opportunities To Get On The Water!
Hello! My name is Joe and I am an ocean lover at heart! I have lived on or near the water most of my life. I grew up in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay, spending my youth aboard my parents 23’ Sea Ray. I spent my summers as a teenager living in the outer banks of North Carolina so I could pursue my passion for surfing. Eventually as an adult I moved to the Hawaiian island of Maui, where I learned to dive and pursue other endeavors on the ocean. I have always enjoyed sailing and motoring but am now in a position where I would like to pursue it on a more serious level, whether it be bigger recreational objectives or working as crew!
I would describe myself as an outgoing individual with a knack for detail, a thirst for knowledge and an irresistible wanderlust! I like to exercise my mind and body daily. A positive mental attitude is a must! Humor and music are my medicine. Having spent years in varying degrees of customer service and tourism, I understand what it takes to communicate effectively and get along with others, especially those who you have only known for a short period of time!
I love adventure and have spent most of my life chasing my outdoor passions. Climbing, canyoneering, surfing, diving, snowboarding, skydiving.....the list goes on! I enjoy teaching about the things that interest me and learning from others who are the same.
I am wilderness first aid/CPR certified, an accredited swift water rescue technician, a PADI certified advanced open water diver and ACA recognized canyon guide with years of rope work experience.
My plan is to spend more time on the ocean learning the skills necessary to safely and successfully navigate and maintain a boat in hopes of pursuing it as a career. I am currently very open to all options that will allow me to gain the experience I desire. Although making money in a crew position is desirable, I am just as excited to spend time sailing recreationally to share experiences with others and discover this beautiful world!
I am interested to crew on a boat for a few reasons. First, my love of the ocean has once again inspired me to learn a different way to interact with it. From surfing to diving, I have spent a significant portion of my life going after activities that allow me to spend more time in and around it! Second, I have a lust for knowledge and believe that the skills I have acquired so far in life would transition well into a position aboard a vessel. I have learned how to meticulously clean through years of professionally detailing automobiles, learned to work on engines and mechanicals through time as an automotive technician, and learned to rig different and complicated rope systems as a certified canyoneering guide. Whether I am aboard recreationally or as paid crew, it will give me the experience I want and need to become competent in all aspects of living and working on a boat. Lastly, spending time and working at sea lends itself to an alternative lifestyle that is something I am truly after!
