Looking for a Deckhand position
Hi - I'm interested in finding a position as a Deckhand.
Working on the largest privately owned cruise ship with over 22 in its fleet, sailing to destinations all over the world. Perform a range of duties for the safety of navigation and passengers under the supervision of Senior Officers.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge Watchkeeping and Navigation: applying the Colregs for safe navigation, maintaining look-out at sea and at anchor, maintaining Bridge logbooks and Bridge equipment and sending firemen to fire alarms.
Safety: Knowledge of Life Saving Appliances and Firefighting equipment. Follow emergency procedures.
Maintenance: Maintain deck equipment, perform SMS, PMS, Permit to Work, Risk Assessments
Ship operations: Port Watch, Loading and Discharging cargo
Deckwork: supervising mooring deck during mooring and anchoring
I worked as a Deckhand on a passenger ferry in the UK, for 5 months. Responsible for passenger safety and their vehicles and other cargo. Additionally, attending to maintenance of the vessel and other duties of request from the captain.
Key Responsibilities:
safe load and discharge of the car deck and assist passengers as required, paying attention to disabled passengers.
Mooring duties, rigging the pilot ladder, lashing vehicles during sailings.
General duties including washing down, maintenance, cleaning, painting, refuse collection and storing the vessel.
Ensuring the security of the vessel. Assisting cabin staff with passengers visiting their pets during the voyage, cleaning the cabin, transferring stores and bonded goods and any other assistance required.
