0 sailing to recently minted RYA Day Skipper - looking to build experience to skipper my own boat
Hi there I'm Jim and I'm looking to get more sea experience as a crew. I started from 0 recently and sailed about 200nm to finish my RYA Day Skipper (competent crew included) in Greece on 39-45' Bavarias. I'm comfortable with the basic crew tasks for medium sized sailing yachts, would like to get more intermediate/advanced knowledge about the sailing part of sailing, plus maintenance and management of the sails and parts supporting the sails as a boat owner. In the near term I plan to get a boat in Florida area and sail around the Caribbean and progress into doing it solo.
A bit about me:
>30, single male, Chinese-American, based in Texas currently but not home 90% of the time
>studied literature/economics in American undergrad, business finance masters from France
>worked in NYC area finance in my early 20s, solo since 2018 as digital nomad/traveler
>general laid back guy, flexible on smoking/drinking (I try to be moderate personally)
>spend most of my time reading current events, books on geopolitics, contemporary philosophy/literature - happy to chat about it nonstop or not at all depending on your preference
>avid skier - 100 days+ on the snow this year
>excellent at victualing/cooking - my sailing class crew can vouch for it :)
