A free boat. A big dream. A real ocean crossing.
We’re looking for an experienced Captain and a small crew to join the maiden voyage of Freeboat YANI, a proven ocean-going sailboat beginning her next chapter — sailing from Europe toward the Caribbean and eventually home to the Pacific Northwest.
This is more than a delivery. It’s the beginning of a story.
? What is Freeboat?
Freeboat is an idea built on generosity, adventure, and giving big dreams a chance.
YANI’s longtime owner has sailed her across oceans and through life-changing adventures. Rather than sell her for profit, he chose to pass her on to someone who yearns for the same kind of journey — removing the financial barrier so the adventure can continue.
The mission is simple:
Restore and prepare a capable world cruiser
Document the journey honestly — the learning, the challenges, the magic
Inspire others who think big adventures are out of reach
Build a community around exploration, craftsmanship, and growth
This is the beginning of a YouTube-documented voyage and long-term sailing project centered on adventure, storytelling, and real human experience.
? Why We’re Looking for Crew (and How This Works)
We’re assembling a strong, positive, capable team for:
Sailing & passage-making
Safety and watchkeeping
Storytelling / filming / documenting the experience
Helping shape the culture of the journey
Because this is an early-stage project, we are currently seeking:
➡️ Volunteer or discounted professional participation
in exchange for exposure, credits, and being part of the launch of something unique.
We want to be upfront: this isn’t a fully funded commercial production (yet).
But here’s the vision:
If the YouTube channel and project gain momentum — and we fully expect they will — paid positions will come first to the people who helped launch the journey. Full rates, and then some.
This is a chance to help build something from the ground floor.

Offshore passage-making experience
Calm leadership style
Comfortable mentoring newer sailors
Safety-focused but adventure-minded
Open to being part of a filmed project

Sailing experience preferred but attitude matters most
Positive, adaptable, team-oriented
Comfortable living aboard for multi-week passages
Filmmaking, photography, editing, or storytelling skills are a huge plus
Cooks and multi-skilled crew always welcome

Leg 1 — Fall 2026
Belgium → Canary Islands
Shakedown sailing, preparation, and learning the rhythm together. Follow the coast, many port options.
Leg 2 — November 2026
Canary Islands → St. Lucia
Classic trade-wind Atlantic crossing (~3 weeks at sea).
