Cheerful, nomadic guy looking for mile-building and adventures.
Hello Shipmates,
I'm a cheerful, nomadic bloke looking for crewing positions on sailing vessels. I prefer to crew for an experienced skipper who likes sharing knowledge. I'm here to learn as much as possible. I'm aiming to do my offshore Yachtmaster in the coming years. So looking to build up my miles and do some longer voyages.
Sailing is a long-time passion and I love racing with my local club (fast handicap dingys). I have crewed for casual racing and cruising yachts over the years in NZ, UK and the Mediterranean from 2003-present. My most recent is crewing on 12m Dragonfly Trimaran for 25 days, Aug/ Sept, 2023. We sailed roughly 1400 miles through the Mediterranean from Athens to Sardinia, via Southern Italy, Sicily and Eolian and Egadi islands. cheerful, adventurous and nomadic bloke looking for crewing positions on sailing vessels. I used to work on motor yachts in my 20s (fishing trawlers, dive liveaboards and charter boats) and have the relevant marine tickets and training).
I'm a PADI rescue diver with over 200 logged dives. I have my own full set of offshore foul weather gear and life jacket and MOB1 AIS 'Rescue Me" personal beacon that links to onboard VHF.
As a mature crew member (45), I am respectful, polite and diplomatic. I value the time and energy you are giving, so in return will always give my best efforts and respect your rules and routines for crew.
I can offer a bit of entertainment on board (guitar, lots of card games, stories and banter etc). I have picked up some handy budget cooking skills over the years too. I can fish ok, if it is done responsibly (Trolling, hand line, shore casting etc). I love bushcraft, foraging and wild camping. I'm meticulous and tidy, having lived in vans, boats and small spaces.
I'm here to learn, share and enjoy everything this beautiful planet has to offer!
I've enjoyed alot of recreational diving and snorkelling in many places around the world since 2000. Marine sciences, oceanography and conservation are a lifelong passion since Uni. I'm always seeking the healthiest reefs to explore and study. My mission is to get to see the Solomons, PNG, E. Indo and the S. Pacific reefs before I get too old.
French is my second language within my family and work life. I've also spent a fair bit of time in Latin America, so speak basic Spanish. I'm approachable, friendly and caring.. but won't tolerate bullies!
Finally my pie in the sky! I'd love to do an Atlantic crossing (both directions) and visit the Cape Verde Is. and Azores. But my ultimate dream is to spend a long season or years exploring the S. Pacific Islands and atolls around French Polynesia, Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu. I'd love to do some voluntary research and exploring of the reefs of the coral triangle (Solomon Islands, Indonesia and the Philippines) and possibly venture to the wilder territories of Papua New Guinea. If you are a skipper in this area and looking for crew, I'm your man!
Thank you for having the patience to read this far. Hope to share the adventure soon.
Fair winds and happy sailing to you!
