Seeking competent crew position on private yacht in French Polynesia after June 1, 2024.
I am crewing on a Solaris 50 from Panama to the Marquesas, and now looking for my next boat.
I’m retired and seeking interesting long-term positions/extended cruises on private yachts. I intend to take my Yacht Master license and wish to build miles. I am currently in Costa Rica after working on an electric propulsion conversion on a 47' catamaran in Panama. I may join that boat next year when it sails to Polynesia. Last fall, I crewed 1,200mi double-handed on an Oyster 56, from Port Townsend, WA to Ventura, CA (see captains’ recommendations below)
No longer a spring chicken, I still have plenty of spring in my gait! I am potty-trained, hardly ever drink and don't smoke. I live a very healthy lifestyle and am fit.
I’m kind of the ideal crew-attentive, disciplined, organized, competent, responsible, communicative, trustworthy, mechanically savvy, a good cook and a good host when visitors step aboard. You can leave me in care of your boat when you go to shore, or for an extended land trip, and your vessel will be well cared for and safe. Having run many service enterprises, and a nonprofit, for 40 years, I’m comfortable with a wide variety of people. I enjoy doing repairs/maintenance on boats (my father was a mechanic). While crewing, I’m looking for in-depth knowledge in navigation, sailing, weather and diesel repairs and maintenance. I raced sailing dinghies in my youth (470, Finn) and fished commercially in Alaska for 5 seasons, twice taking boats from Seattle to the Bering Sea. I am familiar with being on boats, sharing tight quarters, and being responsible and safe.
I am free to go anytime, anywhere, and hold two valid passports.
I wouldn't mind being on a boat with kids, or a boat doing education/service.

"Poki was excellent crew, proactive, responsible and reliable. Be it maintenance or repair of the diesel engine and generator, teak decks, cleaning or whatever was necessary, he was always there to help me or do the job by himself. He is an excellent cook, and can create a great meal from whatever is available, however always trying to use healthy natural ingredients. If there was nothing on the list, he would go and find whatever was necessary. He is also respectful and nice to other people, always creating a positive vibe. We sailed about 1200 miles, most of the journey only two of us. I could rely on him to rest while he was on duty knowing that he will act accordingly if needed. I give Poki best marks and he is always welcome to join the boat."
