Experience sailing instructor looking for crewing opportunities in Europe and a possible Atlantic crossing.

Experienced sailor looking to join a sailing vessel in the Med/Europe in the fall of 2026, and possibly a second crossing to the Caribbean. Last year I sailed from Spain to St Lucia (in the ARC) and am open to a similar opportunity this fall.

I am a both a ASA and Sail Canada Advanced Cruising Instructor with a lifetime of experience adding up to more than 10,000nm of coastal and offshore sailing. I own my own sailboat in Vancouver, where I also teach and train sailing novices to instructors

I am also a qualified VHF and Catamaran instructor and I have both my ASA and Sail Canada Offshore and Celestial certifications. I also have the World Sailing Coastal and Offshore Survival at Sea certifications.

I have raced and cruised keel boats of all sorts and can participate in all aspects of sailing from standing watch, navigating and trimming sails to cooking, cleaning and provisioning.

I’m easy going and fun to sail with and I’m looking to join a well run sailboat, preferably at least 45ft or 13m. I will be in Europe this fall (2026) and would be interested in doing a second Atlantic Crossing on a well run boat.

A Sailor You Want to Have on Your Boat

5

Sailing with Mike is a bit like adding both an autopilot and a sailing encyclopedia to your crew — except he’s much friendlier and won’t beep at you in the middle of the night. He’s an excellent sailor who really knows his stuff, especially when it comes to sail trim. If you want to squeeze the last tenth of a knot out of your boat, Mike can tell you exactly how — and if you don’t, he’ll happily adapt to your style and let you run things your way. He’s never picky, never fussy, and always easygoing. If you’re curious, he’ll share a wealth of sailing knowledge. He’s the kind of crew who’ll grab a rag, a screwdriver, or a winch handle without hesitation. Whether it’s cleaning, repairs, or just lending a hand, Mike is always willing to pitch in. On top of that, he’s relaxed, calm, and has a genuinely friendly personality that makes time on board not only smooth but enjoyable. In short: if you get a chance to sail with Mike, take it. He’ll make your boat faster, your workload lighter, and your days on the water more fun.
