20 years on the water, starting with charter trips around the world and evolving into mostly solo sailing in The Netherlands—with a beagle as crew—on a Friendship 26. Along the way, I’ve crewed on various boats, including a delivery run from the Netherlands to the Med.
Recently upgraded to a Van de Stadt 36 and now working toward longer offshore passages and a first ocean crossing.
Former VTS operator in the Port of Antwerp, currently a high school teacher.
I read, play chess, and cook—properly. Food matters, even at sea. I’m just as comfortable in silence as I am in good conversation.
Communication is direct and honest. I prefer doing over talking and learning by getting my hands on things.

Boat descriptionA true classic sailing yacht with timeless lines, traditionally built in steel. This SEAL (zeehond), however, designed by E.G. van de Stadt for his eldest brother J.H. van de Stadt, offers a modern twist: a lightweight polyester (fiberglass) hull. This makes her noticeably lighter and far more responsive on the water, while still featuring the same trusted rigging—resulting in a remarkably agile and genuinely performance oriented sailing experience. Inside, she surprises with a beautifully crafted wooden interior and an impressive sense of space for a 36-foot yacht, including a spacious galley, making her warm, inviting, and perfect for extended cruising or comfortable living aboard. Orca navigation, AIS, VHF with GPS and AIS,handheld with GPS. No life raft and no dinghy. Hot water & heating available.

3Boat owner not Skipper
What was an interesting opportunity turned into a disaster very quickly aboard "Satya". Inadequate preparation and an unseaworthy vessel soon became apparent once we left the inland waterways of Holland into open sea. Torn sails, large intake of water, things breaking in no more than "sporty" conditions. The decision to return to port was made by the crew and a "skipper" desicion to cross a large vessel at the bow then to do "doughnuts" until the vessel had passed was enough to know that more experience is needed. All three crew left the boat at the first opportunity after we were accused of being upset due to our personal time, effort and costs for this fantasy. I write this as a warning to future crew. More knowledge, experience and boat preparation is needed.

Always in for surprises...
I had captain Katja many times as a crewmember so she is more than experienced now. Fun company always in for a midnight swim. Great sailing area in a small but comfy boat. One advice: three bottles of red wine a day as fee is recommended to keep her happy ;-)

Perfect Trip
I had the pleasure of joining Captain Kat and another Crew meiner on a sailing trip from the Netherlands, through the English Channel, to the beautiful Isles of Scilly. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Captain Kat is a knowledgeable, calm, and highly capable skipper who made everyone on board feel safe and welcome. Her seamanship, professionalism, and attention to detail were evident throughout the voyage. She planned every passage carefully, and her excellent passage planning gave the whole crew confidence, even during the long offshore leg and busy shipping areas. Before we even left, Kat had prepared around 50 sandwiches for the journey—a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the trip and showed just how well prepared she was. She always made an effort to ensure everyone was comfortable and included, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere on board. One thing I especially appreciated was that, during the night watches, Kat would regularly come on deck to check that everything was going well and to make sure the crew was comfortable and confident. Knowing she was always keeping an eye on things was very reassuring. It was also my first experience using the Orca navigation system. Kat introduced us to it, and I found it to be a fantastic tool that was intuitive and enjoyable to use. Overall, this was an amazing sailing adventure, and I learned a great deal under Kat's guidance. I would happily sail with Captain Kat again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a safe, well-organized, and enjoyable offshore sailing experience. Thank you, Kat, for an incredible trip!
