Watch: Sailing Ioanian
Chilled cruising around the Ionian. Sun Odyssey 33i
Hey there!
I'm heading back out to my boat for the summer on the 4th May and looking to make some new sailing friends. I've had some good experiences meeting people on here so far and I'm looking forward to more.
I'm looking for people around my own age (38) that are laid back and easy going. I don't mind what sailing experience you have. I don't accept couples as it comes with unknown dynamics.
I expect crew to get involved and all costs will be split (examples at the bottom). I'm not looking for people who want a free holiday or to be a host. I also ask crew to pay for my evening meal (up to 15euro max), which I also do with friends & family. This is because there's always an element of holiday mode involved when experiencing places, which I enjoy, but adds up quickly and kills my budget.
I don't have any real plans other than to cruise around and probably try catch a few fish along the way. This also means I don't generally make plans for more than a month ahead of time because I simply don't know what I'll want to do or where I'll be.
The boat has two double berths so generally only supports up to 1-3 other people onboard if people are happy to share. It's also worth noting that the boat is pretty much a floating caravan and not as glamorous as people see on TV, so set your expectations accordingly.
I generally spend around 70% of my time on anchor and 30% on the cheaper or free town quays. While I prefer to sail, I will use the engine rather than waiting for perfect wind.
You can see examples of the area I sail on my instagram @ryan.sails_
Average Costs:
- Meal out: 10 euro
- Pint of beer: 4 euro
- Anchoring in a bay: Free
- Staying on a town quay (shared): Free-20 euro
- Staying in a marina (shared): 60-100 euro
- Fuel for the week (shared): 60 euro
Great time!
I spent 6 days on Ryan's boat and it was a great experience sailing around some of the Ionian Islands. Ryan is a wealth of knowledge and loves to share everything he knows. Being a solo female traveller it can be a bit daunting joining a situation like this, but Ryan was really welcoming and communicative throughout the week. Lots of fun and learning along the way :)
