Delivery 53 ft Expedition Boat Alaska to British Columbia
I’m looking for an experienced sailor to join the final leg of a delivery aboard a 1998 53-foot aluminum expedition sailing yacht.
This is the last stage of a voyage that began in New Zealand in May 2026. Since then, the boat has sailed nearly 7,000 nautical miles through the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands. Following arrival in British Columbia, she will undergo an extensive winter refit in preparation for another Alaska season possibly followed by the Norhtwest Passage.
This is a working delivery, not a sightseeing cruise. The objective is to move the boat safely and efficiently before the end of the Alaska season. While there may be opportunities to enjoy spectacular anchorages if weather and schedule permit, expect long sailing days, overnight passages, night watches, and limited time ashore.
Requirements
* Significant experience on 50+ ft monohull sailing yachts.
* Offshore sailing experience with overnight passages.
* Comfortable standing solo night watches.
* Competent with sail handling, reefing, docking, anchoring, and general seamanship.
* Able to work effectively as part of a small crew.
* Calm, safety-oriented, adaptable, and willing to contribute to all aspects of operating the boat.
Preferred
* Previous sailing experience in Alaska, British Columbia, or similar cold-water cruising areas.
* Familiarity with strong tides, currents, fog, and coastal navigation.
* Mechanical aptitude is a plus.
Logistics
* This is an unpaid crew position.
* All onboard expenses are covered.
* Due to the short timeline, the final crew selection may not be made until August 7 for a planned departure around August 11.
* Candidates already based in the United States or Canada are preferred because they can join the boat on relatively short notice.
* Arrival in Campbell River is planned for approximately August 31, although weather or operational considerations may require extending the voyage by several days. Applicants should have sufficient schedule flexibility.
If you’re interested, please include:
* A brief sailing résumé that includes approximate offshore mileage, experience on larger yachts, and relevant certifications.
* The names and email address of three references (skippers or boat owners)
Experienced sailors who enjoy deliveries, expedition sailing, and being part of a capable small crew are encouraged to apply.
