My Life Before the Mast
Hello, my name is Adam, and after four years of planning, I’ve made the transition to a life at sea.
I’m currently crewing on boats throughout the Caribbean and have helped several vessels transit the Panama Canal. My goal is to eventually sail the South Pacific.
My maritime background includes owning and living aboard sailboats, volunteering with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, and spending significant time on the water in a variety of conditions. My certifications include an IYT International Certificate of Competence (ICC) Bareboat Skipper licence, VHF Radio Operator Certificate, and Canadian Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC).
I’ve always been drawn to life on the water. I’m an avid scuba diver and freediver, and enjoy kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, exploring coastlines, and generally finding excuses to be in or around the ocean. I’m also an artist, and I’m hoping to bring that part of my life along as I travel, working with graphite and sketchbooks. I love spending time outdoors, observing new places, and capturing them through creativity.
Professionally, I worked as a construction project manager, overseeing complex projects, coordinating teams, solving problems under pressure, and taking responsibility for getting things done safely and efficiently. I bring that same mindset aboard a vessel: show up, work hard, learn quickly, and contribute wherever needed.
I’m physically fit, easygoing, dependable, non-smoking, and clean-living. I enjoy meeting new people, learning new skills, and embracing the challenges that come with offshore cruising and long-distance passages.
I enjoy helping prepare boats for passages and ocean crossings, as well as getting involved in the sailing itself. If you’re looking for a reliable crew member with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, practical skills, and a genuine passion for life at sea, I’d love to hear from you.
Fair winds,
Adam
