Looking for a Mile building and friendly Crew position
Hi - I've just joined Crewbay. I'm interested in finding a position as a Mile building or Friendly Crew. I'm looking forward to meeting new people and learning more about sailing, especially at sailing on longer leg and blue water!
I am currently available for a longer leg from roughly October 15th until the end of November. I will be at Las Palmas about 11.10.-18.10.2026.
I would love to join your team and can hop on board at any harbor around Europe, the Mediterranean, or the Canary Islands. I am particularly interested in a longer passage crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean, with the monohull sailboat.
I completed a one-week sailing course in the summer of 1997 out of Marmaris, Turkey. I love all the water sports, and I have had extensive experience with various water sports since childhood. For instance, I am a qualified rafting guide, and one of my favorite summer activities here in Kuusamo is whitewater rafting on a SUP board. Needless to say, I deeply understand and respect the power of water and wind.
Over the past 3 summer holidays, I completed two one-week coastal and offshore sailing trips on a 34–35 ft boat. The first was with just me and a skipper friend along the southern coast of Finland (over 120 nm). On the second trip, we sailed from Sweden to Finland with a crew of just two plus the captain (about 120 nm). This past June, I participated in a demanding +25-hour offshore sailing competition on a Finngulf 37 (Espoo-Estonian cost-Espoo – about 90 nm). In August, I joined the same 6-person team for three more races, including the Helsinki-Tallinn (Estonia) race ( 2 x 90 nm). I have also done 4-day and 90nm with the skipper at 31 ft boat, and 3-day archipelago (60 nm) sailing trip with the skipper + we were 2 crew members. Navigating the Finnish archipelago requires excellent skills; you cannot rely solely on the plotter—you must read paper charts, spot sea marks, and be ready to make sharp turns in narrow passages between islands.
Now starting at 20.9. I will sail with Swan 51 (sy Eira) from Sardinia to Lagos, Portugal – and then from Lagos to Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Spain). That will be great experience of longer leg at Blue waters.
Following these experiences, I am eager to embark on longer voyages, meet new friends and countries, and further develop my sailing skills. I am reliable, ready to follow the skipper’s orders, and I possess strong common sense when it comes to boat duties. I can comfortably take the helm, steer, and keep the boat on course. I have not been as a bowman with Spinnaker / Genakker, but in theory I know what he/she does.
I used to be pediatric nurse, and I have always regularly updated first-aid skills. I hold numerous instructor and guide qualifications, including alpine skiing, telemark, cross-country skiing, Nordic walking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. I just finished my 23 years long career as a Manager of the Ski school (and at summer time: Bike school/other summer activities).
I have also been a Scout since childhood, which has given me practical handy skills, strong social skills, and a proactive, helpful attitude.
P.S. I am a great expedition cook and I love to dance! I am a non-smoker who enjoys a beer or a glass of wine with dinner when in harbor or at anchor. Naturally, no drinking when offshore.
