Looking for boats in the Canary Islands going to the Americas!
Hi there!
I recently graduated mechanical engineering in Switzerland and after a brief money-saving job I took a year off to fulfill my dream of traveling the world, preferably with a lot of sailing. After spending the past years diving deep into mountain sports in the Alps, with the ocean further away, I want to get back to water sports more. And ever since I've first stepped foot on a sailboat, a big crossing has been a dream of mine and thus I'm looking for this opportunity (or others if they come along) in the Canary Islands from mid-October this year! I've sailed a bit on the lakes of Switzerland and last year did a week in the Mediterranean sea around Elba with a good friend who's an equally good Skipper, where I definitely learnt a ton more about sailing and my spark for days out at sea was fully ignited ;)
As I can easily obsess about all things technical, all the details and thoughts that went into designing something that can propel in the water using basically any winds are beyond fascinating for me, and then to navigate out at sea without seeing land, thinking of how the people managed this with analog tools throughout history is just mind boggling.
So far, I did not get sea sick even on the super windy days and nights (fingers crossed) and loved the tight knit vibe on the few m2 aboard. Although I get along well with simple foods (ate only canned beans for a week as an experiment this winter haha) I like making people happy with a nicely cooked meal after a long day and enjoying the sunset while the waves gently wash upon the hull... so nice!
Anyways, coming from a hands-on family where I learnt to build and fix stuff myself, after spending too many hours in front of a screen for my studies and work, I'm super eager to be looking at a sail or an engine or sandpaper or barnacles or anything but pixels, and thus happy to help anywhere and learn more about sailing, boat maintenance and all the things I don't know yet.
