New and willing to learn!
Hello,
My name is Aharown Jackson. I"m 31 years old and currently living in Houston, TX. I have a CDL class A license and I currently hotshot deliver ice around the greater Houston area.
I have always longed to Sail and for as long as I can remember. Growing up my father, a United States Marine who had the honor of serving aboard a Naval battleship, had on display his award for crossing the equator. It fascinated me.
As I aged and matured the thought of sailing and all the experience has to offer: travel, peace of mind and freedom being a few of a vast amount, stuck with me.
Now, at the age of 31 I have decided to go after this dream. Ive recently completed my ASA 101 basic keel boat course and am now looking to get on deck experience.
I am a hard worker. I believe it to be one of the core strengths of my personality. I believe in doing the job the right way the first time, saves a lot of time.
I work well in a team setting and alone. I strongly believe the mission comes first and will always strive to be a useful member of the crew. If left on a task alone, I strive to complete it in a timely manner but most important, correctly! Like my father and older brother, I too served my country and have developed a respected and understanding of the necessity of a chain of command and believe that will translate onboard any vessel I may work upon.
I seek the instruction, lessons and wisdoms of more experienced sailors and the opportunity to apply what I’ve been taught to become a more capable seaman.
My sailing instructor stressed the point of developing seamanship in a whole and that the only true way to go about that is boots on deck, or in this case flip flops.
So here I am, ready and able, looking for opportunities that can fit into our sometimes busy, busy lives.
My plan is to get aboard on any intern or unpaid positions to gain as many hours I can at sea under sail. After I’ve gained adequate experience I will seek delivery opportunities. The long term plan is to have a cruiser of my own some day.
