Hi. My name is Michael. I took up sailing a few years ago and am currently at the Coastal Skipper level on the RYA ladder. Now I'm looking to take on longer passages as I build up to taking the Yachtmaster exam at some point.
So far I have been lucky enough to have sailed all along the South Coast of the UK from Dover to Lands End, round the corner and as far as Milford Haven. Currently I'm sailing a Hanse 415 based at Hamble Point Marina in the Solent. It features slab reefing, a self tacking jib, has three cabins and two heads.
I am not the kind of skipper that shouts or hogs the helm. I like to enjoy the sailing experience and share that with the crew I am with.

Boat descriptionThe Hanse 415 is a 40-foot (12.4m) modern cruising yacht designed for easy, fast handling, popular for families and short-handed crews. It features a signature self-tacking jib, single rudder/twin-wheel steering, and a spacious, comfortable cockpit with a drop-down bathing platform. This particular 415 has a layout of three-cabins and two heads. It is spec'd with electric winches, B&G instruments, B&G plotter and a bow thruster. For safety there is an EPIRB, flares, life raft, horse shoe, throwing line, MOB recovery cradle and fire extinguishers throughout. All crew are to wear life jackets unless at dock/anchor. If you don't have your own life jacket, I will provide one for you. The boat is based at Point Hamble Marina in the Solent. You will just need to bring suitable clothing, a sleeping bag and any food/snacks/breakfast that you particularly like. Cheers, Michael.

2Lovely and very knowledgeable Skipper
I spent 5 days crewing for Michael on the Solent. Michael is a lovely person and a pleasure to crew for. He is always kind and has safety as a number one priority. He is very good explaining sailing theory and great company. I can't wait to crew for him again! Very pleasant experience.

Crewed for a Michael for 5 days along the South Coast on a Hanse 415
Michael was friendly, welcoming and polite. He is a knowledgeable, experienced and very capable skipper, familiar with the Solent and surrounding coastline. Michael knew all about the boat, as well as local conditions and marinas, and he made us aware of all useful information. He put our safety first, keeping plans flexible, and did not push too far when it seemed unwise. Communication of duties and what was expected of us was made clearly and respectfully. I was very comfortable onboard, and never felt unsafe with him as skipper. Everybody chipped in and pulled their weight. We had a very pleasant time spotting landmarks when offshore, visiting local bars and restaurants when staying in marinas, and having a good chat about sailing or various topics of interest over a cup of tea in the evenings. I was able to learn a lot from Michael, who was very patient and generous, and I enjoyed our passage together very much.
