Crew for Spain to DK delivery
Dream of sailing along the European shores in spring?
I have bought a boat recently that is in the process of being delivered to Denmark. :) It went from Greece to Lisbon this fall, and was spending the winter on land in Lisbon for maintenance. It is now on its way to continue to Denmark.
I am looking for crew to join from Portugal and along the European west coast. It is no easy trip, but it is certainly doable with the right crew and boat. I will not be onboard myself, but have hired an experienced captain for the job - and he's also a great guy. Other crew will be taken on a contribution basis, meaning you will share expenses to food, marinas, diesel.
Any experience is great of course, but really what is required for this journey is a lust for adventure, endurance, ability to learn and a love for the sea. We would like to have 3-4 people onboard at any given time, in order to keep watches etc comfortable. The boat is sometimes travelling day/night when weather allows, and laying low when it doesn't.
We are flexible, you don't need to stay onboard the whole journey. Approximately week long legs, depending on the usual things.
The boat is an old 1983 steel bermuda rigged sloop. Hul in good condition. It's 40 foot, 1.9 meter draft, 3.47m beam. It has tiller rudder, plotter, autopilot, VHF, radar, dinghy, toilet, safety equipment like life raft, epirb, life jackets etc.
Most halyards and sheets are run to the cockpit, the jib is on a furler. So it is a boat that can be sailed short-handed or even singlehanded. It does not have a world of modern comforts (or space), but it does have a functioning head, galley w stove, burner, sink and electrical water pump, two aft cabins and a v-birth, and a cosy saloon area. In the cockpit is the old-fashioned tiller rudder (but with autopilot), a bimini to shade the sun, engine controls, plotter, fresh water shower hose. No hot water though! There is a windwane (or wind rudder) available for those long stretches as well. The engine is a 2009 Vetus m4.17 diesel with 42 hp, it runs every time.
There is insurance on the boat which will cover you too.
Crew will contribute appr 15-20 € per day. Until now it has been that you just share your expenses for food, fuel, marinas, etc. so you have an influence on the expenses yourself also.
This was all the boring details, but let's have a talk!
Novice crew onboard Fatuhiva
One month sailing Fatuhiva as a novice crew member. Jeppe has been nicely coordinating the boat transfer remotely from Denmark as we sailed with an experienced skipper and motivated crew members. He was particularly attentive to our experience and our safety onboard. We cruised from Greece to Spain passing by Sicilia and Sardaigne on the way. The boat stood strongely even if some maintenance was required on the way. It can confortable fit 3-4 on long crossing and I would certainly recommend anybody such experience and great company!
