Round trip to various Turkish ports from Samos Greece late April till end of May 2025

Join in Ormos Marathokampou marina late April 2025
Detail of shared contribution to avoid any confusion. Costs in Greece and Turkey are higher than might be expected due to Taxes including 13% on food and 24 % on alcohol in Greece.. In an average week the boat uses €60 of fuel, €15 gas, € 10 for pump outs and makes 4- 5 harbour stops @ €20-35 a stop. Clearance into Turkey €200 plus more to leave and more again if you don’t have a VISA for Turkey. I normally stock the boat with or without crew help and have invoices for provisions purchased. In Turkey Marina prices are €100+ per night but free restaurant jetties are available where the food cost with wine will be about €40 a head, so I try to avoid marinas in Turkey. Therefor budget a minimum of €200 a week if 4 aboard, up to €400 a week if only 2 of us aboard. ATM’s are few and far between, both Greece and Turkey are not card friendly so the boat kitty is cash.

Demanding Skipper

Ed is a very experienced skipper/instructor and he expects a lot from his crew. He is patient the first time but if you repeat a mistake his diplomatic skills are, shall we say. 'limited'. Having said that he is prepared to accept suggestions about route and sailing but be clear he is the boss. I sailed with Ed in spring 2024 for 3 weeks and came back in autumn for a further 2 weeks. Can't have been so bad then. If you are a novice he will treat you more gently but if you are experienced then accept a bawling out if you get something wrong a second time. Sailing with Ed raises your game. I hope to sail with him again in 2025.

"My experience wasn’t the best. Although I was originally booked for 3 weeks, I ended up staying only one. The captain lacked patience with both me and the rest of the crew. If you're not comfortable with being shouted at or sworn at, this might not be the right boat for you. While he was happy to take the €200 per person per week, he didn’t seem very tolerant of our unfamiliarity with his boat or sailing methods. He can come across as rude at times, treating those without advanced sailing knowledge quite harshly. Only consider sailing with Ed if you have thick skin."
