Watch: Challenge Wales
Late Availability: Rhu (Scotland) to Rhu on Challenge 72
72 foot sail training vessel Challenge Wales is looking for 5 crew to
help sail on one of her adult-only sailing skills voyages.
The voyage is a Sailing Skills Builder allowing people to improve their sailing knowledge and confidence. With our Training Centre Instructor onboard this voyage can be a great opportunity to have supportive instruction and expert guidance while gaining miles for RYA Yachtmaster Coastal, Day Skipper or even Competent Crew. This voyage is likely to include a night sail too. This voyage will be a real benefit if you are wanting to gain on your current experience.
5 places available that we are looking to fill as soon as possible.
All those onboard will be involved in running the boat, cooking, cleaning as a team with everyone prepared to get stuck in! You need to be a teamplayer and get on with others. This is an adult-only voyage.
This trip is ideal for those who are Competent Crew or Day Skipper or wanting to work towards their next RYA qualification - though you can just join for the fun too! It is a great opportunity to sail a big boat in the UK. Other people currently booked on this voyage are seeing it as a Sailing Skills Builder opportunity or looking to become a volunteer with Challenge Wales but we just need a few more people to help crew and ensure we have optimum numbers onboard to get the best out of the trip.
The week will include passage planning, navigating, sail trimming, general sailing experience on big boats.
You will need to make your own way to and from the boat and cover costs for food ashore although we plan to do most/if not all cooking onboard.
You will Join the boat in Rhu (Scotland) at 4pm on Saturday 29th June (FYI -direct/regular trains from Glasgow Queen Street to Helensburgh Central which is 2 miles away from Rhu Marina - there is flexibility to join a little later if your travel arrangements get you in later). You can depart the boat for 10am on the Friday 5th July.
There is a shared contribution of £48 per full day (so cost will be £240). This will include lifejackets, waterproofs, training, sailing experience, marina fees, port fees, food/refreshments while onboard. If you are wanting to achieve your Competent Crew on this voyage then please let us know as that is an additional cost.
Please note Challenge Wales is a dry-boat and no smoking/no vaping.
