Watch: Intro to life on board
Deckhand - Permanent - $150-$300 p.w. + meals + bed + tall ship training - Australia
If you've always wanted to sail in a tall ship or looking to develop your tall ship skills - this is your chance. The company SYDNEY HARBOUR TALL SHIPS has three historic sailing ships and a wooden ferry which cruise regularly on Sydney Harbour and occasionally offshore. Our job is to share the excitement and romance of tall ship sailing and the delights of Sydney Harbour and the Australian coastline with local and international visitors.
We are looking for enthusiastic young crew who love working with and serving people and are not afraid of heights, since part of the job is 'laying aloft' and furling the sails. The job is multi-faceted and every day is different - excellent customer service is paramount and a high regards for cleanliness. You will be serving food, serving at a bar, sailing the ship and doing some maintenance jobs. You have a friendly nature, are responsibly minded and enjoy the satisfaction of making people happy. Sailing experience is valued but definitely not essential - your willingness to learn is more important. We have a well structured training programme for all crew.
Non smoking policies apply at Sydney Harbour Tall Ships.
An Australian Holiday Working Visa is usually required for foreign crew. This is not available in some countries, unfortunately, including many eastern European countries. You will need to be 18-30 yrs old (or in some cases up to 35 years old) to obtain the holiday/work visa.
If you're considering a maritime career or just looking for adventure and enjoy being part of a friendly community this is a great opportunity for you.
Live-aboard positions are available (with all meals provided) plus $150-$300/week. Please send an application with your CV, photo and availability to Capt James Parbery.
