Captain - Permanent - €6.000 - General (Europe)
SY Axiom is looking for a new skipper with good engineering skills. Position to be filled a.s.a.p.
About the yacht:
Built in 2010 by Conrad shipyard, this one of two specimen 66 feet steel body yacht stayed unused in a marina for 7 years before being bought by the present owner. She’s been traveling ever since Mediterranean and the Caribbean and Bahamas and in the last year, through the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
The boat has a steel hull and is equipped with twin anchors, twin Volvo Penta engines, Fisher Panda generator, watermaker (1.400 l/d), hydraulic main, two genoas (all electrically furled), hydraulic lifting keel and bathing platform. Battery set was converted to lithium in 2019. The dinghy is a Williams jet tender. The inside of the boat is equipped with AC units in each cabin, 3 fridges, 2 freezers, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Boat has Iridium for basic internet and phone connection on passages. Water sports: boat is equipped with diving compressor and diving gear, water skis, paddle board.
Rigging: Main, Genoa 1, Genoa 2, Jib, Spinnaker, all sails new. Fuel capacity: 3.500L, water tanks: 3.000 l, Gross tonnage: 72T.
The boat recently had a full navionic Raymarine refit which needs some bug fixes.
Axiom is currently in Tanzania after having spent a year in Seychelles. The boat is scheduled to leave from East Africa around the Cape of Good Hope, returning to Europa west of Africa, Cape Verde and Gibraltar. Summer season in the Med could include Malta, Capri, Naples, Amalfi, Corsica, Sardigna, Genoa, Nice, possibly later in the season, Croatia and Greece. Winter 2021 in the Bahamas/ Caribeans. Later… will see.
Crew: there are two permanent crew onboard: a skipper/engineer and a chef/stew/deck/admin (a French-Canadian woman mid-thirties). Three additional crew members are usually onboard for passages (right now a young Italian couple and a Romanian man).
Owners: the boat is owned by a German family: a couple and their 3 young adults (1 boy, 2 girls) who often visit with friends. When onboard, they like to participate in the sailing. They use the boat quite frequently when she is in the Med and come for two weeks trips here and there when the boat is further away. They like to dive, snorkel, paddle board, fish, explore remote beaches… Without being crazy about it, they are sensitive about the environment.
About the candidate: The person we’re looking for should have sufficient experience on similar size vessels to be comfortable using hydraulic sailing rigging and crossing oceans as well as leading a 5 people crew. The candidate must also have relevant experience and knowledge in fixing engines, electrical and electronic systems, boat plumbing and anything else that can breaks on a boat that size, which could be described as a mini-superyacht. He/she should be effective at solving problems of all kinds and making sure the boat is in a good working condition for when the owners come. The skipper is to collaborate, live and work closely with the chef/stew/deck/admin. Therefore he/she must have a strong team work attitude and be kind by nature. When the family is onboard, the skipper is to be professional but friendly and proactive at entertaining the guests. Moreover, he/she should have a sound judgement, strong people skills as well as an engineer mindset.
Required: Several years of experience on similar size vessels, RYA Offshore Yachtmaster (or equivalent), fluent english.
