Australian east coast

Crew sought for cruising the east coast of Australia, and beyond. Experience is not essential, but you must be eager to learn.

The yacht is a Sparkman & Stephens 34, well regarded as safe, solid, seaworthy vessels. She is cutter-rigged, with staysail, 130% genoa, fully battened mainsail, trysail and spinnaker, has electronic and wind vane self steering, AIS, multiple VHF and HF radios, Iridium Go satellite connection, full safety gear, 6 berths (one which is used for stowage), a great sound system, TV, fridge, ice box, gas stove, heating, but no hot water (showers are solar hot water) and limited stowage.

We currently do various local trips in south and eastern Tasmania and potentially cruising the east coast of Australia and beyond.

Crew are expected to share the view that safety is the main priority, be flexible with time schedules, be passionate about sailing, have some experience or be eager to learn. You should have a thirst for adventure, concern for the environment, desire for sustainable travel, and a happy, easy going nature.

Highly recommended

I've had the pleasure of having Steve as a crew on my vessel in Sydney...and then I got to be crew on his vessel in Tasmania! This is what it is all about!!! Both were great experiences and I can't recommend him enough either as crew or captan. Lots of knowledge in sailing and in life. We will certainly be doing more sailing and catching up in general in the future. If you get the opportunity, jump on it!!!

Wonderful experience

I had a fantastic time sailing with Steve on his yacht Gypsy! We sailed along the south-east coast of Tasmania and back, and I always felt completely safe – both on Gypsy and with him. Steve is a highly competent and trustworthy skipper — calm, patient, and very experienced. Gypsy is a solid, safe and well-equipped vessel, perfectly suited for both short trips and longer passages. He is a great teacher. I learned so much while sailing with him, and he always took the time to explain things. He's also just a wonderful person to be around — full of stories, knowledge, and good vibes. I wholeheartedly recommend crewing with Steve. I'd sail with him again anytime!
