Cruising the med

Update: Currently looking for crew from September 9th to end of September to sail around the Balearics.

I'm a liveaboard cruiser working remotely, and I'm looking for crew to help me manage the boat as I sail around the Mediterranean. I've been sailing since the beginning of June, departing from Barcelona and following the Spanish coast towards Gibraltar.

The trip itself will consist of short hops from anchorage to anchorage, mooring at marinas every few days to load up on supplies (fresh food, water, fuel). We would spend a few nights nights at interesting destinations before setting out again.

I'm looking for three or four others to share the trip. The position is open for everyone, from novice sailors who are motivated and eager to learn, to experienced sailors. What matters most is your attitude and willingness to look after the ship.

If you're interested, please let me know in your application when you would be available, how much prior notice you need to make your travel arrangements, and how long you would like to stay aboard for.

Regarding costs: I will cover any expenses related to running the boat (fuel, marina costs, etc). There's a 10 EUR daily contribution to help with costs. Food expenses will be shared. Travel to and from the ship will be covered by the crew.

I had the privilege to sail with Juan in 2022. It was a terrific experience, so much so that I got a second trip with him in 2023. He is one of the most relaxed skippers you will ever meet, and he knows his boat and sails it well. I recommend him without reservation.

Had a great few days!

Great captain, great boat, and great company. This was my first overnight sail, and I learned a lot about sailing that isn't taught in courses. The atmosphere was friendly and professional, and Juan was very patient showing me the ropes (literally :-) ) would be happy to come aboard again if the chance arises. Thanks, Juan !

Amazing experience

We had our first experience sailing in the sea with Juan, and it was amazing! He took us as part of his crew even if we didn't know how to sail. He explained and taught us everything with a lot of patience and always respectful. We spent 3 weeks in the Mediterranean, having fun and going to incredible places. His boat is super nice and comfortable. Thanks a lot Juan for this opportunity and we hope to sail again together!

Lots of sailing without rush

Thank you Juan, my journey aboard Athena was wonderful. I embarked on Atenea in Genoa and we sailed all the south of the France in a really pleasurable and safety trip. Juan is a good skipper, have good skills in maintenance, and he know his boat very well. We moved almost always by sails avoiding the engine as much as possible. This was great for me and Atenea sails fast in spite of its charter's attitude We spent a our days in the coves or in the marinas, exploring the cities and islands around us, without rush but just paying attention to the weather conditions. I hope one day I could sail on Atenea again and I really recommend him to everyone. At last but not least: thank you for bearing my terrible english :) Fair winds Roberto

Excellence

I crewed for Juan on Atenea from 1st to 17th September 2021 as a novice. During this period we sailed from Marseille to Barcelona covering almost 300 nm, mostly under sail and anchoring. Juan is a decent young man who is not only a capable skipper; but also very disciplined and meticulous in all the sailing aspects. He does things by the book; and has the patience to explain to the crew not only what he's doing, but also why doing it in this particular way or order. He also ensures that all crew carries out all the sailing tasks equally and fairly, while safety is the highest priority. Great sailing development in a no pressure environment, and thanks to Juan; I've learned a lot about sailing (in the Med that is ?) Atenea is a modern luxurious cruiser with all the navigation and safety equipment on board and in good working order. For the number of crew members Juan usually maintains; it is a comfortable boat to be on for extended periods / passages. Highly recommended. I'd be more than happy to crew for Juan again.

Great experience

I spent just over 2 weeks on Atenea cruising the Italian coast and notching almost 300NM, mostly by sail and with a relaxed no rush agenda. Juan Pablo was a competent captain, understood his vessel, had crew safety in mind at all time and was an easy going guy. Would be happy to spend another voyage in Atenea in future.
