Cruising the med
I'm a liveaboard cruiser working remotely, and I'm looking for crew to help me manage the boat as I sail around the Mediterranean. I intend to depart from Barcelona at the start of July, head over to Sicily, stay there until September, and return to Barcelona.
The first leg of the journey will be broken up in three main crossings, which will be done on weekends to accomodate my work during the week. First Barcelona to Menorca, departing on Saturday, July 5th, which will take around 20 hours. Then on the afternoon of Friday, July 11th we will cross from Mahon to Sardinia, around Oristano, which should take some 40 hours. We will then sail around Sardinia to Cagliari, and on the afternoon of Friday, July 18th, cross over to Sicily, to Marsala, which will take another 40 hours.
Details are of course subject to change depending on weather.
Aside from the crossings, the trip itself will consist of short hops from anchorage to anchorage, mooring at marinas every few days to load up on supplies (fresh food, water, fuel). We would spend a few nights at interesting destinations before setting out again.
I'm looking for three or four others to share the trip. The position is open for everyone, from novice sailors who are motivated and eager to learn, to experienced sailors. What matters most is your attitude and willingness to look after the ship.
If you're interested, please let me know in your application when you would be available, how much prior notice you need to make your travel arrangements, and how long you would like to stay aboard for.
For the initial crossing to Sicily, I would expect a commitment of at least two weeks, boarding in Barcelona and leaving in Sicily. Once in Sicily, the schedule is more flexible. Similarly for the return trip, which should mirror the first leg and start around September 19th.
Regarding costs: I will cover any expenses related to running the boat (fuel, marina costs, etc). There's a 10 EUR daily contribution to help with costs. Food expenses will be shared. Travel to and from the ship will be covered by the crew.
high praise
I had the privilege to sail with Juan in 2022. It was a terrific experience, so much so that I got a second trip with him in 2023. He is one of the most relaxed skippers you will ever meet, and he knows his boat and sails it well. I recommend him without reservation.
