Looking for a Crew, Deckhand, Cook position. Ready to leave (current location: Italy)
Hi, my name is Marco, I've just ended my first sailing experience, and I am eager to continue the trip on other seas and boats. I'm 38, 168 cm short, in good shape and willing to work and travel on sea some more.
In my first journey I helped a 72 years old commander in every task needed: we prepared his boat (a 16 metres Beaufort ketch) for a 500NM trip to the Aeolian islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Once there, we hosted 4 guests for a week, and 6 for another week.
My activities have been from mechanical repairs (we worked on the engine for some fixes and kept it checked, mounted a new inverter, substituted a couple of water pumps, desalter filters etc...) to cleaning the topsides of the hull and the deck, carrying guests to and from the land with the dinghy, preparing meals and washing dishes, anchoring/mooring at docks and gas stations, sail managing (without furling jib: we had slides and switched jibs the old-fashioned way, folding them on deck), reefing, nightwatching (scary experience: the first night i had to wake up the commander once), i holded the rudder as helmsman for some miles (some sailing close hauled, some downwind) and motoring when leaving the dock.
I'm interested in joining a crew to work with and travel, and looking forward to achieve some more sea miles (or ocean miles, why not!) and knowledge.
I'm Italian as citizenship and mother language, and i speak English fluently and Spanish.
I also like to play the guitar and sing, as an individual or collective way to relieve stress and enjoy time togheter.
I have been an educator/social worker for many years, before finally deciding to quit my job and search for adventure. Floating on a boat in the middle of the sea has been very interesting and satisfying so far
