Looking to join a sailing trip to gain experience as crew
Hi! I'm Sammy (28) from the Netherlands — a visual anthropologist, former chef, and documentary filmmaker with a growing passion for sailing.
I’m at the very beginning of my sailing journey and I’m looking for opportunities to join boats as crew in order to gain hands-on experience, learn the ropes, and grow as a sailor.
I feel most free and alive on the water. My dream is to one day sail around the world solo — but for now, I want to learn everything I can by crewing with others.
A have a curious and calm mindset. As a visual anthropologist, I’m trained to observe, listen, and find the beauty in everyday life. I’ve worked professionally as a chef and love cooking for a crew. Also, I’ve directed film crews, so I know how to work together as a team, in close quarters, and deal with pressure.
I’m open to any kind of sailing experience — coastal or offshore, short or long trips. Europe is easiest to start from, but I’m open to adventures elsewhere. I’m happy to contribute to food and shared costs.
I speak English and Dutch, and I’m available from September 2025.
