Interested in networking and opportunities to take my kids out for a few days.
Hi Sailors. My wife and I, and our children aged 13 and 10 are interested in sailing from Australia to Indonesia next year, then potentially further. This is part of a charity project, revisiting communities we have been supporting for 20 years ago and demonstrating low impact lifestyle.
We have been crewing in the weekly day races around Brisbane since February. Our son recently completed a 4 day dinghy course. We have enjoyed the day sailing and have learned many skills in that relatively controlled environment, but understand there’s a lot more to learn to prepare for open water.
I assisted with the 1100 Nm delivery of a 60ft ketch recently. We’re looking for a boat owner who would be interested in taking my wife or me and one or both of our kids on an overnight trip or short passage of up to three weeks. We’re happy to meet anywhere between Sydney and Airlie Beach for the right opportunity. Our aim is to gather more experience and wisdom from experienced sailors and to see how we handle a longer journey. Then we will know if it’s worth seeking formal training and how realistic our goal is.
My wife and I are both engineers and take instruction well. I would be happy to provide references from the skippers we have sailed with if needed.
