Hi Sailors. My wife and I, and our children aged 12 and 9, are interested in sailing from Australia to Indonesia next year, then potentially further. This is part of a charity project, revisiting communities we have been supporting for 20 years ago and demonstrating low impact lifestyle.
We have been crewing in the weekly day races around Brisbane since February and our son recently completed a 4 day dinghy course. We have enjoyed the day sailing and have learned many skills in that relatively controlled environment, but understand there’s a lot more to learn to prepare for open water.
Now we’re looking for a boat owner who would be interested in taking one or more of us on an overnight trip or short passage of up to three weeks. We’re happy to meet anywhere between Sydney and Airlie Beach for the right opportunity. Our aim is to gather more experience and wisdom from experienced sailors and to see how we handle a longer journey. Then we will know if it’s worth seeking formal training and how realistic our goal is.
My wife and I are both engineers and take instruction well. I would be happy to provide references from the skippers we have sailed with if needed.
