⛵️ Looking for a Sailboat — UK/Western Europe to Western India or part of route (from March/April 2026) Beginner/Intermediate Crew
Hello all! I’m Ted, 24, from Germany/UK and currently living in the UK.
I am looking to join a sailboat to take me for some (or all!) of my journey to India in time for my little sister’s graduation this May.
I have beginner-level sailing experience and have completed RYA Competent Crew.
I’m really keen to share stories, cook, clean, explore, stand watch, carry out any deck work, and improve my sailing skills. I'm also very willing to contribute to costs and acutely aware of the challenges that can occur during crossings.
Reason for my journey:
My little sister will be graduating in India come end of May 2026. I am keen to travel by sea, not just for sustainability reasons, but because I am a firm believer that the way we travel influences our relationship with time and space. This relationship, I believe, is key to how we relate to the natural world.
I have done a lot of travelling by train, but getting to India that way will prove a tad tricky given current geopolitical instability. I would love to make it to Pune in time for the graduation so if anyone has any experience/tips/advice or know of anyone heading that way too I would love to hear more! My understanding is that the journey would at present have to be made around the Horn of Africa.
A little bit about me:
I am an environmental historian with a steadfast love of the natural world. I enjoy reading and writing and would be happy to document the trip if that was of interest!
Previously I have been a keen kayaker, climber, and hillwalker but living in London has curbed that. Now I enjoy cycling and getting to know the urban birdlife around me.
I am a fast learner, motivated, dependable, and willing to turn my hand to anything. I am happy to provide character references too.
